Part of the Best Golf Clubs for Seniors series
Getting to the green is, of course, an important part of any golf game. But if you can’t get the ball in the hole once you get there…
Here’s my take on some of the most popular putters around with particular emphasis on the best putters for senior golfers.
Not a brand I’d heard of before but this looks like a funky putter with certain attributes which make it suitable for senior golfers. For one thing, it’s a bright white (at least before you start to use it!) which makes it easier to focus on if your eyesight isn’t quite what it was!
The manufacturer points out that this white finish helps the putter really stand out against the green, helping you focus on the black alignment lines that help ensure your putt is on target from the start. At 380g this mallet putter is ‘tour weighted’ making it particularly suitable for faster greens. It also comes with a free custom PGX headcover.
Some of those who have used it make comments like “I can say without hesitation I love, not like, this putter” and “I have gone from [being] a 3-putter to a 2-putter”.
For those with deeper pockets, this option from Callaway features a gun-metal PVD finish and a ‘White Hot’ insert. Callaway claimed its inserts have become an “iconic part of the game” with more wins, top-1o finishes and usage across the world’s professional Tours.
This model features an updated version of the insert featured in the Odyssey Men’s White Hot Pro 1 Putter, Right Hand, 34-Inch. Callaway says this provides more consistent sound, feel and performance across the striking surface.
If, like me, you grew up using those traditionally shaped putters you were given on the par-3 ‘Pitch and Putt’ courses, you’ll be familiar with the look and feel of this putter. Suitable for both right-handed and left-handed players, the Augusta provides a solid performance. It has a brass blade-style head, a steel shaft and an all-weather grip.
Looking anything but traditional, this blade-style putter claims outstanding twist-resistence and distance control on off-centre hits. The manufacturer says that the counter-balanced Spider Blade is 50% more stable based on overall club MOI values than a traditional putter. Meanwhile the white leating edge and linear alignment aid assist with lining up the putt.
